Reflection

As we enter Lent, it is often understood as a holy time, a time of deep reflection.  I  think of it as a critical part of one’s journey.  These 40 days provide a moment to check in, to contemplate ourselves,  the world around us, and our relationship with God.

In a conversation earlier this week with a participant in Kairos Collective, I pointed out my love for Pete Townshend’s song, “Let My Love Open the Door.”  It is a song which has touched me deeply since Townshend released it in 1980. The feeling which arises reminds of the words of the writer and theologian, Frederick Buechner

“Pay attention to the things that bring a tear to your eye or a lump in your throat because they are signs that the holy is drawing near.”

I believe the sacred is everywhere around us, in our interactions, in our relationships, in the beauty of creation, in art.  We live in the midst of the sacred everywhere we move, look, and listen.  My hope is that as we journey through Lent together, we help each other see the sacred permeating everything.
